As the only island city in the UK, Portsmouth has a lot to offer to fans of water sports, marine life, navy personnel and history with a significant maritime past being particularly relevant. With Southampton, Eastleigh and Havant close by there is plenty going on along the south coast with close to a million people living in the area. In the early 1800's the dockyard was the biggest industrial site in the world. From a student perspective the city centre is vibrant and you will have your choice of national chains especially at Gunwharf Quays. Nightlife is exciting and varied whilst transport is easily accessible including numerous ferries and Southampton airport.
