Newcastle has a very strong claim to being the premier student city of the last decade. The nightlife is never ending and varied, everything is within walking distance throughout the city and if it's not then the Metro is convenient and not overly pricey. The accommodation is grouped together creating energetic, social hubs, in particular around Osborne Road, Jesmond, where a large number of bars are situated. Then there is the cost, your student loan will go a long way here, even drinking is cheap with three trebles for a fiver. Alternatively you may wish to save your money (and your health) and train for the Great North Run which passes through the city annually.
