The home of Humpty Dumpty, Colchester is one of the fastest growing towns in Britain with a population of just over 104,000 (taken from the 2001 census). The 11,000+ students of the University of Essex are based in and around the town. The town itself lays claim to being the oldest recorded town in Britain and as such is an interesting location for history students. Transport in and around the city is reasonable and the capital of the world (London) is only 50 miles away, whilst Stansted Airport is a mere 30 if you are looking for a sunny break.
