Bedford is around 50 miles north of London; it is reasonably sized, with a population close to 100,000. The University of Bedfordshire which is partly based here has over 24,000 students, a suitably large proportion of the population, even with many living on the other campus in Luton. The university is a 20 minute walk from the energetic town centre, however, regular buses are on hand to save you time, if you so wish.. Then again, Bedford has produced numerous Olympians (Paula Radcliffe being the most successful) so you might enjoy the exercise!
