Expects high standards
Harsh marker, not much feedback
- Expects us to self teach entirely - Hasn't actually taught us any art techniques - Doesn't give any feedback online or on the forum - High amount of work expected without telling us methods of how to do it - Knows nothing about games, doesn't even know who Lara Croft is. Barely knows who Mario is.
Mel creates and incredibly pleasant environment to learn, she is funny which encourages me to engage, she is can be harsh but that’s for good reasons. Her methods of teaching are helpful to me because it’s split up, most classes are several activities. The most recent activity was spending 5 minutes on a character based around colour teaching speed and how negative overthinking a character is. She encourages sharing personal work and also expects you to also teach yourself; there is only so much someone can teach you, but that’s a given with this course and art. She arranged crit sessions which is more useful face to face because you can’t hide and it’s easier to explain thinks in person as opposed to the Staffs forum.
Sometimes it can take her a while to reply to emails. But that’s obvious considering no one is on their emails every day. Nothing much else is bad.
We get a very nice variety of tasks, and being taught how to successfully come up with character concepts. Classes are rather light hearted and it's easy to feel rather replaced in her class! Overall a lovely lecturer!
I would recommend some more online comments on work. Otherwise, no complaints!
