The 'Gateway to the Highlands' is situated at the point where the Scottish Lowlands meet the Highlands. It's history is rich and colourful, Bannockburn is nearby and once it was the capital of Scotland. The city is overlooked by a castle that in the past had a huge influence over the whole country, given its strategic position. Stirling is a regional hub and as such is well supplied with shops and a decent nightlife. Transport is also good locally (mainly buses), whilst the M9 will get you to Edinburgh or Glasgow (or their airports) in under an hour.
