Intelligent, engaging and highly approachable. Simply wonderful.
However, if you simply want to 'pass' and if you're not prepared to think, read and expand your horizons, you will struggle with her courses.
Sari is a great, very eloquent professor and her fieldwork (which she uses to frame a lot of discussions) is very interesting. She seems genuinely interested in what you have to say. I'm am also very happy about getting a first on her course!! :))
I first had Sari teach me in second year when she taught me the methodological and philosophical issues in sociology and anthropology course at Goldsmiths, which is extremely challenging and broad. The informative, engaging way Sari lectures made abstract philosophers which aren't easy to grasp (Foucault, Agamben, Luhrman) seem so accessible and easy to understand. If we never understood anything, Sari was always available to see us and made sure we grasped what we found difficult. She really made a difficult second year more enjoyable, challenging and interesting!
Sari's radical approach to teaching complex theory
She is a fantastic lecture who is not only able to convey complex ideas in a comprehensive manner, but engages students. I first met Sari at an open event for Goldsmiths, and she ended up being one of the reasons I applied. She is always happy and supportive in helping students expand their knowledge and is truly missed!
Her lectures are the most fascinating, stimulating, interesting, valuable lectures I have been to. What Sari teaches stays in your mind, she opens your mind and gets you to think, to question and to realise things you never knew. Her teaching is valuable because she educates you beyond the limits of text & books.
Easily the most inspiring and engaging lecturer I've ever had. I was only taught by Sari in one second year Anthropology module but her widespread reputation as an outstanding lecturer meant that we always had students from other modules and even courses and departments auditing this module just to be able to experience her unique teaching style. In the increasingly bureaucratic higher education world Sari is a breath of fresh air with her engaging and mesmerizing teaching style. We all had the feeling that we were being taught by a truly brilliant mind and I feel so grateful to have had her as a lecturer! She always made time for her students and was so helpful and would be undoubtedly be an asset to wherever she works in the future - they would be lucky to have her!
Nothing at all - if you are wanting to be spoon fed boring and basic information Sari is not that kind of lecturer, but what kind of student wants that anyway?
Sari has an amazing personality, her vast knowledge is expressed in an extremely accessible way, and she is so very approachable. She made learning interesting and never a bore, and was one of my best teachers during my degree.
I can literally think of nothing bad about Sari, she was a wonderful lecturer and I know many students who consider her a wonderful friend too.
Amazing break down of modules and constructively challenges our understandings of how the world works. Easy to approach with questions and always tries to include everyone in various learning processes A ray of positive light both in and out of the classroom
What to say? Fun, interesting and engaging lectures. She makes you think and second guess first responses. Challenges and encourages you at every stage. Sari lives for her students and it come out in how much time and attention she offers to all. I really rare lecturer, offers support and guidance and above all open-minded and honest communication.
Nothing! Really... Nothing!
