Style / quality of teaching Approach to subject Passion for teaching Makes difficult course content easy to understand (corpus linguistics)
Garry. Period. Garry is what is good about English at Aston. I spent my time really feeling disconnected from my subject and I could see myself just showing up and not really engaging. Garry changed this. He's teaching style is sarcasim with a massive dose of intellectual brain teasers. He makes a pretty strong case for a complete roll out of (driven) corpus linguistics within most humanities and social science subjects.
He cannot be cloned. School of EAS now's your chance to step up.
He's really good as explaing a complex subject, such as CL. Massivley friendly, just a great teacher of English language. Before i started the course I was very worried that I wouldn't be able to cope, but his teaching style was very inclusive.
He left :(
Has a sense of humour and perhaps lightheartedly removes the seriousness out of the lecture theatre.
Singles out students, can embarrass you in front of other students and attempts to make it seem like it's all fun and games. Personally made me hate his subject. Seeing him subject the same to others made me feel sorry for others in the class.
